The Citizenship Department receives only by appointment.

You can call from 8.30 a.m to 8.30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

This service is handled by Abtran (www.abtran.com) and enables staff to concentrate fully on processing citizenship applications.

The telephone service is to be used for appointments and general information only. All applications must be submitted in person at the Consulate General.

There is enormous interest in obtaining Italian citizenship and, with about 4 million people of Italian ancestry in the Consulate's jurisdiction, many applications are processed every year. However, this may also mean that your appointment for citizenship iure sanguinis may be given in about one year time. Citizenship by marriage, on the other hand, is on a faster track, and appointments are given within a much shorter time. This is because some documents have a limited validity (criminal records are valid only for a few months) and must be presented to the Consulate before they expire. In any event, it is particularly important that you read carefully the information on this website, so that your application can be processed faster after your appointment.

Once you have submitted all the proper documents we will verify and forward them to Italy for registration. When the process is completed we will send you a letter stating that you may now apply for an Italian passport.
