General Information

Every Italian citizen must keep his or her information up to date.

Every Italian citizen that plans to live within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Italy in New York, which includes the State of New York, Connecticut, New Jersey (only Counties of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union, Warren) and Bermuda Islands for at least one year, has to inform the Consulate General.

How to Register to the AIRE

In order to reduce the time necessary to process the AIRE registration (Anagrafe degli Italiani Residenti all’Estero - Database of the Italian citizens residing abroad), it is now possible to register online using a new portal called SeCoLi (Servizi Consolari Online). The system is available to all Italian citizens and allows, once an ID is created, not only to process the registration more quickly, but also to follow up with the application, have a direct contact with the Consular AIRE Department, make an appointment for the issuance of a new passport, and generally take advantage of many other Consular services.

To register to this service, please go to https://serviziconsolarionline.esteri.it/ScoFE/index.sco and follow the instructions.

PLEASE NOTE: For the registration you will need the documents listed below, therefore we strongly advise you to scan and load the following items on three separate files:

  1. AIRE Registration Form
  2. Copy of Italian passport and copy of the document granting legal US residence (i.e. Visa, green card, or, in case of dual citizenship, certificate of US Naturalization)
  3. Proof of residence (i.e. utility bills, bank statements or rent lease) in this Consular jurisdiction. Please make sure to send EXCLUSIVELY the page where name and address are indicated and NOT the entire statement. Also, please be aware that we cannot accept the US Driver’s License as a valid proof of residence.

For those who do not wish to use this online service, it is still possible to register using the traditional procedure as follows:

To register to the Anagrafe Italiani Residenti all’Estero (AIRE), please Download and fill out this form and send it to the Registry Office via email (newyork.anagrafe@esteri.it), mail (690 Park Avenue - NEW YORK, NY 10065) or turn it in personally.

Please note that only one registration for each Italian citizen living at the same address needs to be filled out.

In addition to the Registration form, you will also have to provide a copy of the following documents (for each Italian citizen living at same address):

  1. A valid Italian passport (and one for every Italian member of the family that wishes to register);
  2. A document allowing you to reside in the United States
    1. US Visa;
    2. Alien Registration Card issued or renewed after August 15th 1992. The copy of the renewal payment receipt issued by the US Immigration is sufficient. You can apply for the ARC renewal online (www.uscis.gov) and bring or send us the scanned copy of the payment receipt. If you do not have the updated ARC, you are requested to bring either an US Immigration certificate stating that you have never acquired the US citizenship or an Italian passport with at least one US Immigration entry stamp released after August 15th 1992. Please note: in the absence of the following documents (an updated Green Card, the requested US Immigration certificate of no naturalization, or the US Immigration stamp on the Italian passport) a new passport will not be issued;
    3. US Passport (for all US citizen) and a copy of the certificate of naturalization (only for Italian born citizens who applied for US citizenship after birth) or a copy of the Report of Birth Abroad (only for US citizens born abroad);
  3. Proof of residence (electric or phone bills, bank statements, insurance statements, employment contract, etc.).

In case of changes of address, you should promptly inform the Registry Office by sending the filled out Registration form, a copy of your passport and a copy of the utility bill with new address by email (newyork.anagrafe@esteri.it), fax (212 439 8674), mail (690 Park Avenue - NEW YORK, NY 10065) or personally .
